Norma Jean Riffe, 80, of South Charleston, passed away on August 1, 2017.
She was born to the late William "Bill" and Ruby Catherine Meadows Hartley in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was a 1955 graduate of South Charleston High School. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church since 1961. She served as the Vacation Bible School Director, was the Chairman of Deaconess' and a substitute teacher in Mary Martha Sunday School class all of which she served for many years. She was also a long-time leader of the Pioneer Girls. She retired as Director of the South Charleston Community Center, and continued working at the South Charleston Sanitary Board.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin Delano Riffe; identical twin sister Lenora Louise Riffe.
Jean is survived by her children, Cathy Shriver and husband Ted of Pinch, Becky Bowman of Nags Head, NC, Libby Blake and husband Mike of South Charleston, Dennie Riffe and companion Sandra Childress of South Charleston. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua Shriver and wife Candi, Megan Bowman, George Bowman, Jr., Justin Bowman, Aaron Bowman, and Michael Blake; great grandchildren, Dorothy-Jean Catherine, Daniel Stokes, Myrissa Jane, and Frederick Pernelle; sister-in-law, Sue Riffe; several nieces and nephews.
A service to Honor the Life of Jean will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 5, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Pastor Dean Chambers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
